0360659832 2015-07-22 Production Wells No Violations This inspection was done at the request of the landowner, Jack Recker, when the well leaked oil into his wheat field during heavy rains in late June and early July. At the time of the inspection the well was not leaking but there was evidence that the well had been leaking recently. The leaking appears to be caused by a failure of the 6 surface casing to hold back fresh water allowing oil leak out the top of the well. The area impacted was hard to determine and all oil was washed away during the rains so no remedation was needed on location. The well was covered by a white plastic drum filled with large stones but a wellhead could be seen with 2 tubing on a ring. The well appears to be a Historic Well that has not been produced for some time. The decision was made to leave the well covered until the landowner can provide a riser pipe to place over the well to prevent any further leaking into the field. API # 3417361316 was assigned and the well was added to our database on 8-3-2015.
0837627132 2015-07-24 Production Wells No Violations At the time of the inspection a 4 long by 14 diameter plastic pipe was provided by the landowner to use as a riser. The area around the well was dug by hand and a thin layer of granular bentonite was places in the hole. The riser pipe was then placed over the well and more bentonite was added to the annular space between the riser and the well. Bentonite was also placed outside the rise to create a seal that should keep any further fluids inside the riser and out of the field. This well will be referred for possible acceptance to the Orphan Well Program and will be monitored accordingly.
1527910400 2015-09-02 Orphan No Violations At the time of the inspection the riser was still in place and the bentonite was swelled inside the riser. A quarter inch of rain was measured by the landowner overnight but no leaking was observed from the well, inside or outside of the riser. The well will continue to be monitored for any further leaking and to check the integrity of the riser. The water well for the residence is located 10 south of the driveway and 30 feet north of the house, at GPS: 41.50157, -83.41510, but no water well record was available through the landowner or online.
