1138831036 2006-01-30 Orphan No Violations Checked progress on an abandoned well discovered while constructing storm water drain in Perrysburg. Well casing was encountered while tunneling 30 feet below ground elevation. The well was not visible from the surface. The 8 inch casing had been cut off 6 feet below ground elevation under Cherry Street. An 8 inch pipe was welded to the casing to bring it above ground elevation. The well casing must be removed before the tunneling project can continue. Bradner Oil was going to work on the well overnight and hoped to cement the well on the following day. The company constructing the storm water drain will cut the well casing off at the base of the tunnel project and remove the casing to the surface after the well is properly plugged.
1138886463 2006-02-01 Orphan No Violations Inspection to observe plugging of abandoned well under Cherry Street. Two plugs were set yesterday one used 50 sacks of cement, the other used 100 sacks of cement. The plugs were witnessed by inspector Tom Benko who will submit the plugging report including todays plugs. Cement from yesterdays plugging brought cement up to 110 feet from the top of the casing. Plug 3, poured today was 3 yards of 9 sack grout. Cement did not rise to the surface of the casing and further checking revealed that the cement elevation in the pipe did not rise from the 3 yards poured. Since it appeared as though there was a void at the 110 foot level, the operator next pumped 1 sack of Benseal into the casing. A 10 foot section of 6 5/8 inch PVC pipe was dropped into the 8 inch casing. Four more bags of Benseal were mixed and pumped into the casing. This brought the elevation of the clay to approximately 30 feet below the top of casing. An additional 4 yards of 9 sack grout was ordered. The pipe and Benseal blocked the void and cement was poured to the top of the casing where it remained stable.
1138909439 2006-02-02 Orphan No Violations Well casing pipe was cut off in tunnel 30 below ground elevation. The 30 foot section of pipe was then pulled from the ground and removed from the site. Discussion with tunnel contractor on site and Perrysburg city employee indicated that there was concrete in the pipe at the point where the cut was made. No ID plate will be placed on the well since it is 30 feet below ground. Perrysburg Engineers office has record of well location for future reference. Final restoration is acceptable.
