1033610071 2011-08-31 Production Wells No Violations Clean up of oil spill is done - told owner to take dams out, could leave pads if wanted to but not enough oil to collect. Told to smooth ground, seed and mulch. Called OEPA to tell them clean-up is complete. Provided paperwork to get this well and #3985 they are also producing for house gas registered and in their names - 2 houses getting house gas - one from each well. Tank has been fixed, dike around it with shallow pit below - fenced to keep cows out (cause of spill).
1311027493 2011-07-18 Production Wells No Violations Inspection due to oil spill. Operator is Hayes Family Farm and reports cows knocked off bottom valve on oil tank (no dike) - estimates spill at 30 bbl oil - last time well checked was about a week ago. Not sure when it happened but oil travelled down stream about 500 - stayed on Hayes property. Well has no permit no even tho claim it was drilled by Gulf in the late 1970s. Also say a 2nd well further north and believe it needs permit too. Will send to Columbus to get numbers - dont have old Barlow map this day. Hayes says both wells supply gas for the houses. They discovered @8:30, contacted Bobby Anderson and he told them how to clean up (they dug several holes and filled them with hay!), then called me and I arrived @11:30. Built dike at base of spill while waiting on truck. Called water truck which brought 80 bbl fresh water, washed the stream - had many holes and pockets - then collected oil and water in pond at base of spill. Recovered 2-3 bbl oil this day - possibility of rain tonight. Will begin again on spill tomorrow. Three old men/landowners and very hot! Need to get permit numbers, then wells registered in their name.
1311685944 2011-07-18 Production Wells No Violations Call of oil spill this day. Reports 30 bbl lost, found this morning when went to pump. Believe cows rubbing on tank broke bottom valve off. Reports happened last week - possibly 7 days ago and has gotten into stream. Bobby Anderson told him to dig several holes and fill with straw? I told him to put boom on stream at lowest point, when arrived at noon, found not much evidence of 30 bbls. Organized 3 old men cleaning up the spill on family farm, sent them for pads and had them remove the straw, fill in the holes. Called water truck to bring load of fresh water, flushed stream - had travelled @ 500 downhill - and collected in pond at base of stream. Stream is rocky, intermitent, and cows and walked oil into the ground. Flushing worked well, recovered 1-2 bbl and question that there was 30 bbl lost - maybe most was brine. Called OEPA, developed plan for clean-up. Told them they should be registered as owner and how to do it - have a 2nd well but 2 houses on property and one well for each house - domestic exempt.
1765230885 2011-07-19 Production Wells No Violations Met with OEPA, he got stuck in mud so took several hours. Rains last night helped wash stream, clean up oil spill. We agreed that probably clean-up of replacing pads on stream until all cleaned should be sufficient to complete clean-up. Will probably take weeks for land to release all oil. Owner promises to continue to monitor and call me when all clean.
