0204841260 2012-02-03 Orphan No Violations My inspection this day found an orphan well with 8 casing broke off at ground level and the hole full of water. The inspection was requested by a landowneron adjoining property, Mr. Larry Crostin, who is planning on leasing the deep rights and wanted verification that the wells do not exist. The terrain is very overgrown and rough but there is an old lease road and landowner (Mr. Dalton) said Century had plans in the 1990s for getting the well going, they told him. I found landowner to be Mr. Dalton and he showed me the well - map shows it is on L. Crostin property but Mr. Dalton says this well on his property. Mr. Dalton signed Right of Entry form so we can proceed with completing the Orphan Well referral. Mr. Dalton said well used to bubble gas but did not find it bubbling this day, only clear water. Since Century never put the well on their bond, it will be considered orphan - the well possibly drilled in the 1930s.
0902887832 2015-02-17 Orphan No Violations Previous inspector stated the well was full of water and that landowner had at times smelled gas. Upon inspection, I found the well casing still sticking up around 4 above ground; however, it was filled with concrete. I did not smell any gas or see any signs of leaking. I will follow up with the I & O inspector.
1405766241 2012-10-16 Orphan No Violations I inspected well again and found no change. Hole is standing full of water, 8 casing that has rotted off at ground level has been pushed over hole as a marker and as a safety hazard. No odor this day but Mr. Dalton says used to be an odor and strong bubbling of gas thru the water before well filled with water. Courthouse search indicates lease in 1934 for the property which seems reasonable for age of well - believe well is 1000 or less and has not been plugged. No information available but old Ohio Fuel Map shows several in the area that are plugged. Lease road very overgrown and will have to clear trees - no electric or other lines to deal with. Will continue to work up I/O packet.
1576218611 2016-09-28 Orphan No Violations I accompanied Inspector Cindy VanDyke and Geologist Jake Glascock for a status inspection of this orphan well. Water wells in the area were inventoried and pictures were taken of the well location.
