1397508130 | 2014-04-14 | Production Wells | Violations Noted | Landowner Sandy Silva was running fence when he came across a broken 2 plastic line in the bank of Blackburn Creek. Only about a gallon of brine was visible in a 5 X 1 puddle. There was some sheen flowing outside of the puddle towards the running water. A Quantab strip was used on a water sample just outside of the puddle and registered ~28 ppm of chlorides. I contacted Trevor Irwin of the Ohio EPA and the state wildlife officer, Todd Stewart. Todd arrived on location and walked the area and downstream but found no evidence of affected wildlife. Rob Nutter arrived on location and I witnessed him clean up the contamination with diapers and a shovel. He will continue to use diapers to cleanup any brine sheen around in and around the area until there are no more issues. I spoke with John Schneider and explained to him that it is the operators responsibility to call in the spill to the EPA hotline and he said he would do so right away. I will return tomorrow for a follow-up inspection of creek. |
1397576833 | 2014-04-15 | Production Wells | No Violations | Compliance Notice Follow-up 1397508130: I met Rob Nutter on location. He had used diapers to absorb the puddle of contamination and dug up and removed the soil/sediment. There was still a sheen present in some spots, however Quantab test revealed no chlorides. He will soak up any suspect spots with diapers. Rob is going to remove the broken line and place plugs in both ends until they come back to put in new one. They plan on running a steel line under the creek bed at a narrower section to avoid future problems. |
