1076459478 2017-10-03 Orphan No Violations Orphan well initial inspection: This well was referred to the Orphan Well Program by the Meigs County Inspector. Upon inspection, it is observed that the well is idle and is leaking gas and a slight amount of oil from the wellhead. The well consists of 10 inch diameter surface casing, 5.5 inch diameter production casing, and 2 inch diameter production tubing. There are 2 inch diameter steel flow lines connected to the wellhead which have ball valves in the closed position. One flow line leads to a drip and a volume tank before heading into the woods to an unknown location. The other flow line leads to a 40-50 bbl stock tank. The bull plug at the base of the stock tank has been removed, allowing oily sludge to seep out onto the surrounding soil, affecting an area approximately 10 feet long by 4 feet wide. There has been a recent timber harvest on the property and the well casings are bent over slightly above the ground surface, indicating the well may have been hit by logging equipment. The well is situated less than 150 feet off of OH-681 along a logging road. No buried or overhead utilities are observed on the location. There are no occupied buildings on the property where the well is located. Access to the well for plugging purposes will be simple. Photos were taken of the location.
1503664891 2017-08-25 Orphan No Violations I was driving up St Rt. 681 and noticed a large oily area by a 40-50 barrel steel riveted tank. Further inspection revealed the plug on the bottom of the tank was removed allowing the oily sludge to thin out and run out of the tank. There is also a large amount of bark and limbs from a logging operation covered in the oily residue. There is also a pile of logs and tree debris that was pushed up against the tank battery. The well is listed as historical owner the well was 15 degrees out of plumb. The valves were in the closed position. There was tubing in the well. This well has been referred to the I&O program.
