The tank battery consists of 2-100 bbl steel tanks and 1-horizontal separator located within a very overgrown earthen dike. Well identification is clearly displayed at the tank battery. The well is a rabbit well. While walking to the well, a large area of burnt out vegetation (approximately 5 x 30) was noted downslope of the tanks. The source of this could not be determined, as the area around both the tank battery and the wellhead is extremely overgrown and inaccessible. Buckeye Oil was notified of this issue on 08/04/2014; they were also notified that a compliance notice would be issued. I met with Gary Lemon with Buckeye Oil onsite later in the day. He stated that Buckeye Oils field staff thought the well was sold to S & S back in 2000 with the other Hange wells, and as a result, they had not been monitoring the well. Access to the tank battery and the wellhead was restored in order to ascertain the extent of the leak. Several small accumulations of oil were noted within the diked area. Buckeye Oil will have their vacuum truck onsite first thing Tuesday morning to suck out the tanks and any standing oil in the dike. Clean-up progress will be monitored. |
