According to ODNR file records, the well was plugged and abandoned in 1955. The plugging documentation indicates the well was plugged from the terminal depth of 850 feet to surface with fire clay. Upon completion of plugging, the well was enclosed in a subgrade vault with a passive vent stack riser. At the time of my inspection, I located the well vault in the location as documented. The top of the well with vent stack header attachment is visible within the vault. The vent riser exists the vault, travels subgrade southwest 20 feet to the corner and then extends to the top of the building envelope. I did not detect any odors of gas or meter-detected gas readings within or around the vault. The vault opening is secured with a cast iron man lid which is locted wihtin the sidewalk area and is secure at the time of this inspection. |
| 1444936514 | 2015-08-25 | Final Restoration | No Violations | I inspected this well location pursuant to an investigation of a possible orphan well. The well is located in a subsurface vault on the northeast side of any existing commercial building. Access to the vault is via a 30-inch diameter, iron man-lid located in the sidewalk area adjacent to the exterior wall. Upon inspection of the vault interior, I observed a 5-inch (estimated) diameter wellhead casing with a 2-inch top fitting for a passive vent line. The well is located under the existing building addition. The vent line travels in the subsurface towards the street and then to the south where is emerges through the sidewalk and extends to the height of the building exterior (20). At the time of this inspection I did not observe any gas odor or meter-detectable gas within the vault. A review of the available file information indicates that the well was plugged and abandoned in 1955. According to the report, plugging was executed by filling the well from the bottom terminus (850) to grade with fireclay slurry. The vault and vent structure was installed at the time of plugging. At the time of this inspection, the visible elements of the well and associated vent system are intact. The vault structure is intact and the lid is secure. |
