1363873057 2013-03-19 Plug / Plug Back No Violations At the request of Robert Czechlewski, Director of the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency, I performed an inspection on the remnants of this well. Approached the well with my PhD6 gas detector meter to determine if there was any noticeable gas at the surface. I detected nothing with the meter. The wellheads surface casing is all that is left of the well at the surface. I looked down inside the casing and heard and saw water bubbling about 30 feet below the surface. I monitored for gas in the casing but still detected nothing. While performing this task, I heard a rattling sound coming out of the ground about three feet away from the wellhead. I put the meter next to where the noise was coming from and set off detector alarms. I measured 3.4 meter reading units of methane, CH4, 70 meter reading units of carbon monoxide, CO, and approximately 20% of the LEL. I contacted Mr. Czechlewski about the situation. Because of its proximity to the county road, within two feet, Mr. Czechlewski was going to have the county road department erect a sign to warn people that the well is dangerous and to stay away from it. Property the well is on is currently owned by a Mr. Harold Melvick, Sr. This will be a good starting point so I can either establish ownership of this well or place it in the States Idle-Orphan program. There is no tank battery associated with this well and, as I wrote above, it is right next the road.
