0867024203 2017-02-19 Production Wells Violations Noted I received a call around 12 pm on Sunday afternoon about a report of oil in a creek at 560 King Rd. Shade, Ohio. I arrived on scene around 1 pm. I assisted Trevor Irwin placing 2 hard booms in Pratts Fork Creek. I then followed the path of oil and narrowed the direction of the source to somewhere near Slab Road. I then drove up to Slab Road and found a tank battery. Inspection of this tank battery revealed a small amount of oil, about 2 gallons, around the 2 inch drain. I then identified a small trail of oil that oil that led to a line of brush, just inside the brush I found a 1 inch piece of black plastic pipe. Below the black plastic was a large area of the ground with pooled oil. (50x50) I identified the well and the tank as the Kane 1 a registered domestic user. I then went to his house nobody appeared to be home. I left my card in the door. I then went down to the bottom where Trevor with OEPA identified the leading edge and we installed another hard boom in the creek. After installing the second hard boom I received a call from Mr. Kane stating that he was in Gallia and would be there in 35 mins. Trevor and I discussed our findings with Mr. Kane, gave him a list of companies that could handle the remediation. With the booms in place in Pratts Fork Creek the release was prevented from traveling farther downstream. I notified Mr. Kane of the violations in person and explained that I would send a paper copy by mail.
