1476904952 2015-07-06 Orphan No Violations Mr. Lester contacted the Division in 2012 after neighbors began complaining about a gas odor from a gas well on his property. The Lesters purchased this property in 2011 from a bank and are using it as a rental property. Mr. Lester said they did not know the well was present when they bought the property. Mr. Lester stated he has never used the well. Todays inspection conducted with Mr. Lester revealed a possible Shale gas well approximately 54 behind the house and approximately 9 east of the west boundary fence. An occasional very faint gas odor was detected near the well. The Sperian gas meter detected 0%-5%LEL/0 H2Sppm during 10 minutes of monitoring directly on the well. The well is equipped with 6.5 inch diameter steel casing that extends 3 inches above ground level. A 6.97 inch diameter collar that is 6 1 /2 inches high is installed on the 6.5 inch casing. One port is in the side of the collar. A steel 6 inch diameter plug is in the top of the collar. A steel line connected to the port on the casing collar is connected to a 9 inch diameter pancake regulator. A steel line goes into the ground from the regulator. A second regulator, similar to regulators connected to commercial gas meters, is attached at the house. There is not a meter at this house regulator and an old sign that states CAUTION THIS RESIDENCE IS SERVED BY TWP NATURAL GAS SOURCES EAST OHIO GAS AND A PRIVATE GAS WELL is attached to the meter.
