1422589286 2015-06-22 Orphan No Violations On site to follow-up on Complaint No. 54 which the Division received in 2002 regarding two historic, orphan gas wells on the property. There are not wells shown on this property on the Divisions or Ohio Fuel Gas well maps. Inspection of the 1st well site showed a well in a 31 diameter vault that is 40 deep. The church found the well while excavating a bank to fill a swale a couple of years ago. The well was gassing after being hit during the excavation. The well was exposed at that time and the church put the vault around the well, installed the pressure gauge and placed a grate over the well so they could continue the project. The well has 4 1/2 exposed casing with a 5 collar. A 1 1/2 fitting with a pressure gauge is at the top of the casing. It is unknown if there is a larger diameter casing below 40. There was not evident tubing in the well or a visible plug in the casing before the pressure gauge was installed, according to Tim Green, who is the camp manager. Tim has never observed gas bubbling through the ground outside of the casing. The fitting is in good shape , the gas detector detected 3 % LEL right at the fitting. The pressure gauge reads 25 psi. There is not a domestic/flow line coming from the well. The church bought the property off of the YMCA/YWCA in the 1930s. A bath house that was near this well was torn down. There are cabins from 25 to 75 + from the well. Mr. Green has no knowledge of the church using the well for gas. They would like the well plugged for safety reasons and for future projects. The camp is well attended throughout the Summer. A walking path is over the well. A septic line is approximately 36 east of the well. The best time to plug the well is after Labor day. Historically this type of well construction in this area is for a shale gas well drilled from 300- 900.
