1183622049 2017-06-02 Orphan No Violations Todays inspection was conducted to check the condition of the fitting on the well that was affected when a tree branch fell on the well. The branch has fallen further on the well since the last inspection and the fitting is further parted at the intersection with the well cap. My Sperian gas monitor quickly detected 100 % LEL/0 ppm H2S near the parted fitting. A gas odor is evident near the well. My gas monitor did not detect measurable amounts of outside of the casing at ground level.
1437673899 2015-03-26 Orphan No Violations On site to follow up on original Orphan Case #1988-0218, Ed Wiley complaint. Selman is the current property owner. Inspection showed an exposed 10.7 OD steel collar at ground level with a 10 plate screwed into the collar. 1.5 diameter tubing with a dresser coupler, (possibly could be a fitting and not tubing), comes out of the plate and into a 2 cross fitting. One side of this fitting is swaged down onto a 1 diameter disconnected line, on a drip, that goes towards Selmans residence. The other side of the fitting is equipped with a broken pressure gauge. The tubing/fitting is at a slight angle with a connector under a tubing valve. There is a plug at the end of the disconnected line and at the top of the tee. The well is near the location of 34-007-6-0286-0000 on the Division of Oil and Gas well map. The well is located at 5122 Chestnut Hill Drive, Ashtabula OH in Saybrook Township. Division records show Lon -80.856997/Lat 41.832199 and a plugged Oriskany well at this location. GPS field location is N041.83230, W-080.85667, elevation 701. There is a gas odor at the collar but no evident bubbling or hissing or oil present. The gas scope showed 3-4%LEL at the SE side of the collar/ground intersection. Mrs. Selman thinks the gas odor is stronger and that a limb from the tree that is over the well may have hit the well when it fell last year. Part of a large limb is lying over the well but is currently not on the well. Selmans bought this property on 05/02/2002. The prior landowner, Edward Wiley bought the property in l977 and contacted the Division in 1988 requesting this well be plugged by the Orphan well program. Selmans have city water. A septic system is west of the well. The well appears to either be a leaking plugged well or a plugged well drilled out deep enough to utilize for domestic gas, due to the old disconnected domestic line. Selmans have commercial gas and have never used the well for domestic gas.
1443035428 2015-08-18 Orphan No Violations On site with Supervisor Chini to review the Selman #1 Orphan well for possible future plugging. The weather has been dry and a gas odor is evident near the tree that grows over the well. Inspection of the well showed the area around the well is overgrown with brush. The gas scope showed 4-6% LEL at the well fitting and 20% LEL at the outside of the well casing when dirt was pulled away from the casing on the south east side of the well. Original orphan well case #1988-0218, Ed Wiley-complainant. Selman is the current landowner/complainant #3212
1459860858 2017-03-06 Orphan No Violations Todays inspection was conducted for the Technical Team to review the well site. A branch from the Mulberry tree that is growing over this well has fallen on the threaded fitting on the well cap causing the fitting to slightly separate from the cap. An odor of gas is evident right at the well fitting.
1490020477 2017-03-16 Orphan No Violations The landowner, Mrs. Selman, had contacted Terry Whitehair-DOGRM, Safety, to report recent winds have pushed the branch from the Mulberry tree laying on the top of the well further down on the well. The threads on the fitting on the well cap are separated further than the 3-6-17 inspection. A gas odor is still detected right at the well. Orphan Well Program Manager is considering removing the tree and venting the well prior to plugging.
