The brine tank did not have secondary containment. Range reported the release was believed to be 5 barrels of produced water. The leak was stopped with a band clamp and the remaining fluid was hauled off.
On 08/07/18 at approximately 1500 hours an incident response inspection was conducted. The brine tank had been drained and removed. Five roll off boxes were present at the site. The area downslope of the well head had been excavated to remove impacted material. In an email received by the Department on 08/06/18 Range Resources indicated they would be remediating the release in accordance with the alternate method described in DEP Spill Policy. |

On 12/18/18 at approximately 0700 hours I conducted a compliance evaluation inspection. The spill area had been excavated and the contaminated soil had been removed and disposed of. The spill was addressed using the Alternative Remediation method described in Department policy 800-5000-001 "Addressing Spills and Releases at Oil & Gas Well Sites and Access Road." The violations have been corrected and there were no violations observed at the time of inspection. Once Range Resources receives a letter from the Department confirming the spill was properly remediated the excavation should be properly restored. |
