1487101800 2017-02-14 Orphan No Violations I inspected this location pursuant to a complaint from the landowner (Complaint #5533). The landowner reports intermittent gas smell coming from the vent stack and she was concerned about potential safety and on-going complaints to . A review of well records identified this well associated with the house had been plugged and abandoned in 1953 by the homeowner at that time. At the time of this inspection, I observed the following: a 1-inch steel vent stack affixed to the west exterior portion of the house and extending approximately 12 feet to a u-fitting. At the reported location of the well, there is a visible depression in the yard. I probed the depressed area with a tile-probe and encountered a solid obstruction that I inferred to be the top of the former casing. I did not detect gas in punch bar holes in and around the inferred well area. I noted an intermittent gas smell near the vent stack but no meter-detectable gas. We agreed that I would provide the homeowner with a I & O right-of-entry form and I would assist her with the application process. I advised her to contact me if gas was noted to be increasing or otherwise causing problems or a danger to public safety.
