At the time of inspection the Operator was not actively working to remediate the the impacted area. The Operator has removed impacted soil from the area near the well head and the area formerly occupied by the brine tank. The impacted soils appeared to be stockpiled on site. The stockpile was covered with plastic with an 8" silt sock installed. No accelerated erosion or sedimentation observed in relation to remediation activity. The Department received an email from the Operator on 8/30/2017 , which indicated that the Operator is planning to use the Alternative Remediation in accordance with Departments current spill policy. The Department recommends the Operator continue to monitor the site until impacted area is remediated.
2632883 Primary Facility 2017-08-28 Incident- Response to Accident or Event Violation(s) Noted Incident response to a release of production fluid reported by the Operator at 2:55 pm. The Operator reported that approximately 22 barrels of brine was lost to the ground. According to the Operator the release was found at 2:30pm. The Department arrived on site at 3:45pm, Operator representative Doug Bargerstock was on site at the time of inspection. The well was drilled and equipped for production. The well apparatus appeared to be in sound condition. The 100 barrel brine tank was nearly empty. The Operator indicated that approximately 200 gallons of brine was transferred from the tank prior to the Departments arrival. The brine was transferred into a seven barrel tank in order to stop the release. According to the Operator, the release occurred when a pipe fitting know as a "three inch nipple, located between the tank and the valve developed a small hole. A small recently excavated hole was observed near the brine tank valve. The hole was approximately one square foot in diameter. The Department observed
