0138376678 | 2014-12-18 | Drill / Deepen / Reopen | No Violations | I was on location to follow up to complaint #4890 located at 6865 Indian Run SE. Complainant stated that the water flowing into the spring house on the property had a salty taste. The spring feeds a cistern and is used to flush toilets, shower and wash clothes. The saltiness started approximately 12-11-2014, but complainant said it became salty and had a degraded taste over several days. The water flowing from the spring into the spring house was field tested with Hach Quantabs and found to have approximately 2800 ppm chlorides. The flow from the spring was sampled and sent to the ODNR Environmental Laboratory for results. A poly brine tank is being set up outside the springhouse and sump pumps will be placed in the outflow of the springhouse to collect all impacted water to be hauled off of location and properly disposed. Replacement water will temporarily be brought on location to fill the cistern in place of the spring. I will follow up on 12/23/2014 to check the status of progress. |
0225157777 | 2014-12-23 | Drill / Deepen / Reopen | No Violations | I was on location to follow up to a complaint #4890 located at 6865 Indian Run SE. Lab results for the water collected from the spring house have been received on 12/19/2014 showing elevated chloride levels of 3040ppm. Ohio Valley Energy has been ordered to provide temporary water for the affected residence. OVE shall solidify the pits immediately and take the cuttings to an OEPA landfill. The pits shall be over-excavate to ensure all of the chloride-saturated soils are removed. After the pits are over-excavated, OVE will spread a generous amount of lime in them and flush with fresh water. After this has been completed the pits then can be closed. If there any excess lime it should be spread around prior to closing. The landfill slips for record will be collected to show the pit material was lawfully disposed. OVE shall monitor the developed spring by taking monthly samples and sending ODNR the results. When the chlorides have fallen below 250 mg/L, ODNR will collect a confirmation sample. Upon confirmation the spring has recovered they can cease supplying temporary water. A stream nearby the springhouse, and the pond on location were field tested with Hach Quantabs and both registered below the measurement threshold of 30ppm. A follow up to the location will be made following the Christmas holiday. |
