Also present for this inspection: Brad Kline, DEP water quality specialist, Eddie Tate, Patterson UTI, and Trent Anderson, company man for Repsol. On November 22, 2018, an estimated 30 bbls (1,259 gallons) of spud mud, or water-based drilling mud, was released from the top of the conductor pipe while the pipe was being set. The mud filled the well cellar and impacted soil beneath the secondary containment liner.
Eddie Tate and Trent Anderson informed us that immediately following the incident on the 22nd, rig mats were taken up and the secondary containment was cut in order to assess the extent of the impact to the surrounding soil. The same day, all drilling mud present was sucked out. Rig mats were replaced and secondary liner was repaired on November 25, the day before this inspection.
