2717777 | Primary Facility | 2018-04-11 | Routine/Complete Inspection | No Violations Noted | A routine inspection of this old abandoned well in Hammersley wild area was conducted April 11, 2018. No road goes near the well, and the easiest way to access the well is to walk from McConnell road down the Hammersley trail approximately 1.9 miles til you get to Hammersley Fork where it comes down from Black Mark Hollow. The well is to the east of Hammersley Fork, and could be seen easily this time of year. The well has a 10"-12" wooden conductor and an approximately 6" casing extending about 6' above ground level. The casing has a valve on top which appeared to be shut in. The casing has several holes in it, and the well is discharging fluid from inside the casing near the base. No significant amount of gas was detected inside of the casing. There were very small but constant bubbles observed outside the casing both inside and outside the wooden conductor. Gas could not be detected with an Altair 5x gas meter in the ambient air above the bubbles. Only when confining the bubbles to a bottle with tube could |
