Well is leaking gas during this inspection. This concern is currently being investigated by the OGI. Prior to exiting the site, Daron Murton stated that the rig will be coming "soon" to repair the gas leak. At time of inspection, Department again observed a wet area below the valve extending out from the base of the brine tank and it appears to have increased in size. The visual area of impact is approximately 3 feet by 3 feet in size. The Department is unable to determine at this time if the visual area of impact extends underneath the tank. The bottom of the tank below the valve is wet. The Department collected soil conductivity readings of 10,890 mS approximately 4 inches deep into the soils located near the valve. The Department is unable to take pictures due to safety concerns during this inspection as the well is currently venting gas. This concern is being investigated by the OGI. The Department contacted operator representative Daron Murton via phone to request a status update on the remediation of the release. Per Mr. Murton: An estimated release of 7-8 gallons of brine occurred. Two cubic yards of soil were excavated. Excavation went down two feet. The soil is being stored in a plastic container awaiting proper disposal. The disposal records/manifests will be submitted to the Department upon disposal. The Department stated to Mr. Murton that during the Department's previous inspection, the brine tank felt wet underneath the valve. Mr. Murton stated the valve was loose and needed tightened. Once tightened, the leak stopped. The Department asked Mr. Murton if excavation was performed underneath the brine tank. Per Mr. Murton, excavation occurred from the valve straight down and there was no observable impacts to the
