2704099 | Primary Facility | 2018-03-09 | Routine/Complete Inspection | No Violations Noted | A routine investigation and inspection of this orphan well was conducted March 9th, 2018. The well is on the DEP plugging list. The purpose of the investigation and inspection was to evaluate current site conditions and well access for plugging. At the time of inspection; the well was under a large rock, where artesian groundwater with iron was observed flowing at an estimated rate of .5 bbl/min. Downstream of the discharge is extensive iron staining to the point where the discharge flows into Montgomery Creek. No casing can be seen under the rock. During recent years, the large rock over the well was reportedly moved and a wooden conductor was found and an attempt was made to run a downhole camera in the well which failed ultimately when wood and debris obstructed the camera at approximately 10-30' downhole. Gas bubbles can be seen migrating up hole in the downhole video. A historical well record was found on file. The well was drilled in 1888 to a depth of approximately 2800' |
