1221186809 | 2017-10-30 | Production Wells | No Violations | I was on location with DOGRM Emergency Response personnel Scott King and Fred Romeo, District Supervisor Steven Ochs, Kyle Ahbel, (Enervest), Edinburg Fire, Portage County EMA, and Portage County Health to discuss Incident #NR10281700004695 concerning methane gas found in a water well located 200 south of this wellhead. The water well services a duplex at address #4958 State Route 14. Scott King spoke with the owner of the duplex and he told Scott that the water well had run dry on 10/28/17 and he contacted Templeton Well Drilling to check the well and equipment. It was found that the flapper on a toilet in one of the rentals had stuck open and caused the water well to run dry. At this time gas was found in the head space of the water well and the Edinburg Fire Department (EFD) was contacted. EFD responded, checked the water well, and decided to evacuate the duplex as a precaution. The oil and gas well is produced as a swab well through 5.5 production casing. Scott Miller Contracting exposed the 8.625 surface casing port on 10/29/17 and Kyle Ahbel reported a pressure of 60psi on the annular space between the production and surface casing strings. Kyle reported that the gas was vented to the 100 barrel tank west of the wellhead and the pressure dissipated within five (5) minutes. The annular space is currently open and a one (1) inch plastic line is vented into the top of the 100 barrel tank. I inspected the line in the top of the tank and I did not observe active gassing. DOGRM Environmental Assessment Manager Kyle Tharp arrived on location to collect water samples from the water well for testing. DOGRM Emergency Response is taking the lead on the investigation and I will evaluate all oil and gas wells in the vicinity for any issues. The cause of the stray gas issue is currently undetermined. |
