I probed the well to a depth of 3 and found what felt like casing (the probe hit metal). - 8 across, full of fresh water and steadily bubbling a considerable amount of gas. There was a gas odor within 6 of the hole and a 7 x 10 kill area, with orange staining on the surrounding ground. When I probed the hole, I reached a depth of 5 without finding bottom. Records show the well was drilled in 1970 to the Medina Formation and plugged by Liberty Petroleum in 1974. It is unclear in the records whether the plugging was witnessed but records show it was plugged with clay. It will need to be cleaned out and re-plugged. Pictures taken, SEM is 185. | |
