2025869600 2014-09-26 Production Wells No Violations Received call from Lorain City Fire Department at ~5:30PM Friday 09/26/2014. The tenant at the home at 3407 Jaeger Rd. in Lorain had been evacuated due to a gas leak discovered by Columbia Gas while inspecting lines in the area. ODNR response was requested. Entered residence escorted by fire department personnel. A slight, occasional odor of gas was present, but no gas was detected by the gas detector. The landowner, Allen Erhart, arrived shortly thereafter. He stated that there was a well in the backyard drilled in 1911 by his family. He believes the well is approximately 500 deep, with 65 of casing in the well. The well was used 15-20 years ago, but lost pressure, and the residence was connected to Columbia Gas. The well was located in the backyard approximately 3 below ground level in a concrete brick vault, upon which a dog house had been placed. No gas was detected at the wellhead. The valve on the wellhead was slightly open; the landowner closed it. The landowner will cut the line from the well to the house, cap it, and replace the valve. He was advised of the need to register as a well owner and paperwork will be sent to him ASAP.
