1340724833 2012-06-22 Orphan No Violations This inspection was at the request of the Rocky River Fire Inspector Crow. There is a vent pipe in the tree lawn at 2780 Wildflower Drive. They stated that the grass around vent pipe is dead and will not grow. I inspected this site and found the vent very unsatble. I removed the inspection plug to check for gas with my gas detector and none was detecteted. I called Inspector Crow and advised him that the area around vent needs to be dug up to expose well so as to establish the condition of the casing. He stated he will call their service department and the director will call me.
1452782139 2016-01-13 Orphan No Violations I inspected this well location as an evaluation of current site conditions. At the time of this inspection, the following elements were visible: a passive vent stack structure comprised of two 2-inch riser pipes attached at grade level to a circular cement base, located in the tree lawn of the referenced address. I did not detect any gas or gas odors. Snow cover obscured any further inspection of the surrounding surficial areas. I met with Fire Prevention officer Robert Crow at the Rocky River Fire Department. I reviewed existing records that indicate this well was plugged and abandoned in 1992 by Baker well Service Rigs, Inc. under contract through ODNR Idle & Orphan Well Program. Post-plugging management included vault and vent construction. In 2012, gas was suspected to be leaking and killing the grass near the well. The area around the well was excavated and gas was found to be emanating from the subsurface several feet away from the well location. It was concluded at that time that the existing well with vent stack may be a former water well and there may be another gas well nearby, but was not located during the exploratory excavation. The activities in 2012 also included the construction of a supplemental vent riser to help mitigate the stray gas. Additional exploratory excavation will be required to assess the source of the gas. I removed the test plug in the vent stack and evaluated for the presence of gas. There were no detectable gas readings within the vent stack at the time of this inspection.
1503497874 2017-08-22 Orphan No Violations Inspected this well at the request of the Rocky River Fire Department. Well is vented into atmosphere, and there is no evidence of any leaks. Test plug was removed and a check with Sperian Gas Meter indicated no leakage at all, with 0% LEL.
1504799767 2017-09-07 Orphan No Violations Met this date with Fire Marshal Robert Crowe, and Fire Chief Aaron Lenart from the Rocky River Fire Department concerning the status of this well. One vent plug was removed from the larger diameter vent pipe and a reading with my sperian gas detector showed no gas was present. Removed the vent plug from the smaller diameter vent line, and a reading of 100% LEL was shown inside the vent line. (This line is reportedly venting gas from an area approximately 10 feet South of a plugged well.) Once the detector line was removed from the interior of the vent line, the reading immediately went to 0. All the files dating back to 1957 were reviewed and I informed both officials as to the next step(s) to be taken to be able to check the progress of the status of this well.
