1494343211 2017-05-09 Production Wells No Violations On the day of my inspection I found an unmarked, rusted 100 barrel steel tank set on gravel 5 feet from an unmarked well. The only visible components of the well were 4.5 inch diameter casing that was equipped with a 4.5 inch to 2 inch diameter swage. There was an open Demco valve on the swage that led to a T fitting and into 1 inch steel line that ran back into the ground next to the well. There was a pressure regulator on the 1 inch line. There was also a newer gauge on the T fitting, above the Demco valve, that showed 175 pounds. There were no lines connected from the well to the tank. The tank was empty. There was a muddy depression behind the tank that was partially filled with standing water. I tested the water with a low range Quantab strip and found the chloride level to be at 151 parts per million. I did not observe any other signs of leaking from the well or tank. The ODNR well finder is showing the property owner as Janet Mooney. There was a freshly mowed path from SR 206 to the well and back to the home on the Mooney property. I went to the home and spoke with the landowner, Mrs. Janet Thompson (Mooney). She said that the well was already plumbed to provide domestic gas to the home when they purchased the property in 1987 and she always believed that they owned it as part of the home and land. They paid to have the well swabbed annually and received domestic gas from the well until two years ago. Mrs. Thompson said that they had the well swabbed two more times, but it still ran out of gas. They are currently connected to public utility gas. I informed her that she does not own the well or the rights to produce the well. She did not have any interest in trying to obtain legal ownership of the well. I informed her that I would be referring the well to the Orphan Well program.
