2078052 2012-06-21 No Violations Noted On June 21, 2012, at about 12:30, I investigated a reported impacted water supply in Prosperity PA. The water source was identified by Range Resources as “Lindley Spring #2” and is owned by Mr. John Lindley of 76 Heritage Trail. Road in Prosperity. The spring supplies the water for Mrs. Helen Swart who has a trailer on a lot she rents from Mr. Lindley. Spring #2 is developed and has an underground reservoir.

Range was aware of the report on May 30, 2012 and reported to WQS Vince Yantko on the same day.

The closest gas site is Range Resource’s Steno Pad; this site is 1,295 feet from Spring #2. The Lindleys also use a spring for their drinking water, and it is even closer to the well site; they report no problems with their water.

Mrs. Swart complained about sediment that built up in a drinking water glass over a couple of days.

I took a sample of Mrs. Swart’s water and sent it to the DEP lab in Harrisburg for analysis. My final determination will be based on that analysis.

2079851 2012-06-21 No Violations Noted On June 21, 2012, I stopped at the Sten Pad for an inspection.

The site was well-marked with signs. Both the E&S plan and the PCSM plan were on-site. I found very good vegetation on the slopes around the pad.

I found no problems.

2088775 2012-08-03 No Violations Noted On July 21, 2012, I received the final results from the samples I took on June 21, 2012. The samples indicate that the spring is under the influence of surface water as it tested positive for both total coliform and also E. coli. Chemically the water is actually quite good and all analytes are easily MCL limits. When compared with the pre-drill data, there is a slight increase in chlorides but these are still 65X less than the secondary MCL. All other analytes results are comparable to their pre-drill data.

As discussed, the nearest well (Range Resource’s Sten #5) is almost 1,300 feet away and both a hill crest and a stream channel are between the spring and the gas well.

Based on this information, I do not believe that the Sten site has impacted the water supply.
