1406740800 | 2014-07-30 | I inspected this well at the request of the landowner and a potential purchaser of the property. The well data had mis-located the former well to the house 3 properties to the south. Based on a review of the plugging records, the observed well at this property corresponds with the documented number referenced herein. The well is currently located 3' +/- below grade, within a square, pre-cast concrete vault with a round, steel, bolt-down lid. Upon opening, I did not observe any gas odors, or find any detectable gas readings with standard issue 4-gas meter. I did not observe any other signs of leakage (e.g., noises, bubbling, or oil staining). The wellhead consists of a 10-inch casing riser with a 10":4" threaded reducer with a 4" plumbers end cap. I did not observe any vent lines or other fittings. The interior of the vault was empty otherwise. Inspection with a probe indicates the vault is resting on soil and has no floor. Upon completion of the inspection, the man lid was replaced and secured. Near the well, and 50 feet to the north within the same property, I observed a 22-inch round structure with a concrete lid or plug, finished to with 2 inches of the existing grade. Adjacent to the structure are two, 2-inch pipe stick-ups. One of the stick-ups is open, the other is capped with a standard plumbers fitting end cap. It is not apparent at the time of my inspection, what the second structure is, and if it is related to any former oil and gas activity. I advised the prospective buyer that some subsurface excavation work may be necessary to further assess this feature. I advised him to work with a qualified oilfield consultant/contractor to evaluate options for management and assessment. |
