The Cigol Leduc 16-25-49-27 well was drilled in 1951 and operated until its abandonment in 1971. Like many of the wells in this area, it never recorded production of oil or gas. After some changes of ownership over the years, Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) became the final owner.

This well went unnoticed until the town of Calmar’s investigations reached what is now a cluster of baseball diamonds in 2012.[1] CNRL attempted to repair the buried well head and reclaim the site in February 2013. A follow up of the site found that the well was still leaking sweet natural gas, and second attempt at remediation was completed in July of 2013.[2] Cigol Leduc 16-25-49-27’s current status is RecCertified.
