1244750393 2009-06-10 An orphan well was struck while excavating a retention pond for a CSX railroad terminal project. Wood casing was found in the excavated material and an open 8 inch bore hole was located in the top of the bedrock. Fresh water was discharging from the hole and flooded the excavation. Water was pumped down from the impoundment and inspectortook GPS and pictures of the well. The operator intends to pay contractor to plug the well rather than place on orphan well program.
1249485030 2009-08-04 Operator ran 105 feet of 5 inch steel pipe inside of 8 inch conductor pipe to protect fresh water zone during cleanout and plugging of well. First attempt to cement 5 inch casing into well was unsuccessful. Today pumped Half Bag Grout into well to form temporary plug between bridge located at depth of approximately 270 feet and the bottom of the 5 inch pipe. Class A cement was then pumped between the 5 inch and 8 inch pipe to try to cement 5 inch pipe in well. Cement rose to surface but then dropped. Possible that cement is going into formation. Will check cement on pipe the following day and if stable will start drilling to clean out well.
1252522393 2009-09-09 Well was plugged on 8/26/09 & 8/27/09. Well was plugged from total depth of 1155 feet to surface with class A cement and 9 sack grout. Plug was witnessed by ODNR inspector Tom Benko. All debris removed from well site. ID plate attached to top of well (photo taken). Well cut off below ground elevation and pit backfilled. Well is located in retention basin for railroad yard. Final restoration is acceptable.
1420523772 2009-07-29 An 8 inch pipe was driven into the open well bore at top of rock. Dirt was packed and graded around pipe to allow access of drill rig to well. During backfilling/grading around pipe, the pipe was hit so that the pipe was not straight over the well. Pit was excavated around pipe and pipe leveled in line with well bore. Cement will be poured to keep pipe from moving during drilling.
292921652 2009-08-26 Well has been cleaned out to Total depth of 1155 feet. Run tubing set bottom plug. Good retruns.
