This was the first release of Manitoba oil and gas data on WellWiki. Our primary data source was Digital Data obtained from the Manitoba Government Ministry of Growth, Enterprise and Trade.[1] We also utilized Production Reports for 1950-2019.[2] The Digital Data was provided in an Oracle dump file which we converted into a MySQL database using the "OraDump to MySQL" conversion software.[3] From this database we made use of the following tables:
We used Statistics Canada's 2016 Census Boundary Files to map each well, for which lat/lon data were available, to their respective unincorporated division and, where applicable, incorporated subdivision.
Overall, this release resulted in the generation of 10,474 Manitoba Well Pages, 603 Manitoba Operator Pages, and 98 Manitoba Division and Subdivision Pages. The team for this project consisted of Joel Gehman, Cole Miller, Alireza Azimi, and Ankesh Kumar. Funding for the project was provided in part by financial support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the University of Alberta, as well as in-kind support from the University of Alberta School of Business and the Petroleum Branch of the Manitoba Government Ministry of Growth, Enterprise and Trade.
